WHAT IS A LIFE COACH?

A life coach uses directed enquiry, deep listening, and powerful questioning to help you dig deep, gain clarity, and shape your life into what you want it to be.
Life Changes™ Life Coaching helps you create a self-led, soul-led life built on inspiration, courage and personal truth.
With our Diploma in Life Coaching with Advanced NLP, our students learn to help their clients create a meaningful life that is uniquely theirs.
What Does a Life Coach Do?
A professional life coach acts as a facilitator of personal truth and courage. It’s not about giving advice, fixing someone’s problems or telling them what to do. It’s about asking the right questions, creating a safe space and helping clients discover the resources and possibilities they already have within them.
A Life Coach works on three levels:
- Grand Overview Life Design: Gaining clarity on the big picture, how you want to live your life, and helping you shape a life according to your values, beliefs, and desires. This includes career, life purpose, where you want to live, relationships, friendships and spirituality.
- Day-to-Day Challenges: Navigating workplace dynamics, family challenges, and relationships and supporting you to overcome challenges in the here and now. Overcome anxiety, imposter syndrome, burnout, conflict, and more.
- Single Defined Goal: A life coach can also help you with focus and momentum towards a single specific goal or dream. You may want to travel the world, climb a mountain, start a business or meet your soulmate.

The Four Shifts for Transformation

Â
Life Changes™ Life Coaching operates through four key shifts.Â
- Clarity: Helping you uncover the exact life and goals you want—not the expectations prescribed by society, your parents, or the corporate machine.
- Courage: Giving you access to your inner courage so you can dare to dream and build a vision aligned with your authentic self.
- Personal Truth: Helping you get real about who you want to be, fostering inner alignment, authenticity, and congruency.
- Change: Designing practical plans of action, providing deep support, and helping you navigate mental ghosts, fears, and internal resistance.

A transformational Life coach uses transformational tools such as NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to help their clients not only become aware of patterns, limiting beliefs and behaviours that are holding them back. They help them shift these thought patterns so they can step into the person they want to be.Â
A transactional Life coach may work more on the level of goals, action plans and accountability.Â
Transformational coaches are also concerned with outcomes and action plans, but they go deeper in supporting transformation at the level of embodiment and identity.
They work on levels of beliefs, identity, values to support their clients beyond simple goal setting and action plans.

The Five Core Coaching Principles of Life Coaching

Â
Life Changes™ Life Coaching operates from five core principles. They shape every coaching conversation.
What makes a great coaching conversation?
It’s not about giving advice, fixing someone’s problems or telling them what to do. It’s about asking the right questions, creating a safe space and helping clients discover the resources and possibilities they already have within them.
- The Client Has the Resources: The individual has all the resources they need in order to change. We are not victims of the past, or the future, and we are not chained to the past or stuck in our current circumstances. People can change, and do all the time. The future is undecided, and you are the creator of your life.
- Creative Power: You are the creator of your life and you have power and influence over your circumstances. An important part of the Life Changes™ coaching philosophy is that you are not powerless, you are not helpless, even though sometimes it feels that way. You have a creative power within you. It is up to you how you wish to use this power.
- The Client Is Not a Victim: You are not a victim even though often it can feel that way. We have much more power than we realise. Helplessness and powerlessness are illusions and cages of the mind that keep us stuck. Once we open the door, you realise that you are not powerless. That is true transformational coaching.
- Agency, Sovereignty & Responsibility: You are sovereign and responsible for your own results in life. Nobody can do it for you. You have agency and ownership over the life that you have created. If you don’t like the creation, we will create something new and different! It is within your power.
- The Map Is Not the Territory: Your perception of the world forms a map in your mind’s eye, a map of perception, beliefs, assumptions and therefore behaviours. This map very much influences our experience and the results that we get. By changing the internal map, we change our world.
Change yourself and the world calibrates around you.

The Present and the Future: Life coaching doesn’t focus on the past. Life Coaching is about the present and the future. It is outcome focused, asking you what you want, and helping you make changes here and now to create the life you want to live.

Final Thoughts
A life coach does not tell you how to live your life, nor do they rely on willpower or grit to force change. By working deep within your unconscious map of the world through structured methodologies like NLP and T-GROW, a life coach helps you dissolve the internal blocks standing between your current reality and a life that makes you proud.
